Guided Oregon coast fly fishing trips

River Runner Outfitters provides guided fly fishing trips for winter steelhead, January through April, on the Wilson, Trask, Nehalem, and Nestucca Rivers of the north Oregon coast.  A guided float trip will increase your effective fishing time and the chance of catching wild winter steelhead, often considered the pinnacle fly fishing experience in the Pacific Northwest.

The coastal rivers all respond differently to weather conditions.  The river you fish will depend on the weather and water conditions that day.  You may have the opportunity to fish multiple rivers over the course of several days.  Three to five days of guided fishing is recommended to provide ample opportunities at ideal river conditions and productive fishing.

a day of fly fishing for winter steelhead

Each day you will meet your guide at a designated place, near Tillamook, Oregon, usually at 7:00 am.  You will be transported by 4WD vehicle to one of four local rivers.  By raft or drift boat you will float one of more than eight beats of river.  Most fishing is done while wading with spey rods and skagit style lines.  Sink tips and large profile flies are necessary to entice the large winter steelhead.  Winter steelhead are always on the move, so covering water is essential for fishing success.  Spey casting instruction is always available and communication of your goals for the trip are helpful to your guide.  Fly fishing for Oregon coast winter steelhead is a hunt.  Realistic expectations should be one or two steelhead encounters per day.
